Trains and public transport
Murten is situated on the north-south route (E4 & A1) between Berne and Lausanne and is the capital of the Lake District of the canton of Fribourg. This small medieval town lies in the Swiss «Midlands» on the edge of the Great Marsh, on a gentle hill (450 metres above sea level) and on the shore of a lake named after the town.
The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) serve most of the major transport axes in Switzerland. You will find timetables for nearly all of Switzerland's public transport on the SBB website.
The principal activity of the BLS AG covers the regional passenger traffic with train and bus, the navigation in Bernese Oberland as well as the rail-bound goods traffic.
Transports Publics Fribourgeois are the main transport providers in the Canton of Fribourg. The TPF are in charge of urban public transport in the town of Fribourg, as well as most of the bus connections in the Canton and several railway lines.
